Sound Healing

What is sound healing?

Sound healing is an ancient therapeutic practice that uses vibrational frequencies produced by instruments — singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and the human voice — to promote deep relaxation, reduce stress, and support the body's natural healing processes.

Every cell in your body vibrates at a specific frequency. When stress, illness, or tension disrupts those frequencies, you feel “off.” Sound healing works by introducing coherent, resonant tones that help the body recalibrate — guiding your nervous system from a state of fight-or-flight back into rest-and-restore.

History

40,000+ years old

Indigenous Australians used the didgeridoo for healing over 40,000 years ago. Tibetan singing bowls date back 2,500 years. Ancient Greeks used music to treat mental illness. Sound healing is one of humanity's oldest medicines.

How it works

Entrainment + resonance

Your brainwaves naturally synchronize with external rhythms — a phenomenon called entrainment. Singing bowls produce frequencies that guide the brain from active beta waves into deeply relaxed alpha and theta states.

Who it's for

Everyone

No experience needed. Sound healing meets you where you are — whether you're managing chronic stress, recovering from burnout, or simply seeking a deeper sense of calm and clarity.

The experience

Deeply restful

Come as you are and let sound wash over you. Most people enter a meditative state within minutes. Many describe it as the deepest rest they've ever experienced — a full-body reset.

The Science

What research tells us about sound and the body

While sound healing is rooted in ancient tradition, modern science is catching up — revealing measurable effects on brainwaves, heart rate, cortisol, and pain perception.

Brainwave Entrainment

Singing bowls produce binaural-beat-like frequencies that guide brainwaves from high-frequency beta (active thinking) into alpha (relaxed awareness) and theta (deep meditation) states. A 2017 study in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine found significant reductions in tension, anxiety, and depressed mood after singing bowl sessions.

Vagus Nerve Activation

Low-frequency vibrations from bowls and gongs stimulate the vagus nerve — the body's main parasympathetic pathway. This triggers the “rest and digest” response: heart rate slows, blood pressure drops, and the body shifts out of stress mode. Research shows vagal tone improves with regular sound exposure.

Cortisol Reduction

Multiple studies have demonstrated that sound meditation significantly lowers cortisol — the body's primary stress hormone. Participants in a 2019 study reported decreased anxiety, improved mood, and lower perceived stress after just one 60-minute sound bath session.

Pain Management

Vibroacoustic therapy — using low-frequency sound vibrations applied directly to the body — has shown promise in reducing chronic pain, fibromyalgia symptoms, and post-operative discomfort. The vibrations increase local blood flow and help release muscular tension at a cellular level.

Improved Sleep

Sound healing sessions promote delta brainwave activity — the frequency associated with deep, restorative sleep. Many participants report dramatically improved sleep quality for days after a session. This makes sound baths especially beneficial for those dealing with insomnia or disrupted sleep patterns.

Emotional Release

The body holds stress and tension in its tissues. Frequencies from crystal and Tibetan bowls create a safe container for these feelings to surface and move — often described as a profound sense of lightness afterward.

Instruments

The modalities of vibrational healing

Each instrument produces unique frequencies and overtones that interact with the body in different ways. Together, they create a layered soundscape that supports deep healing.

Crystal Singing Bowls

Made from 99.99% pure crushed quartz, crystal bowls produce powerful, sustained tones that resonate with the body's crystalline structures — bones, blood, and DNA all contain silica.

Known for

Clarity, chakra balancing. Each bowl is tuned to a specific note that corresponds to an energy center in the body.

Tibetan Singing Bowls

Hand-hammered from a blend of seven metals, Tibetan bowls produce rich, complex overtones. When placed on the body, you feel the vibration move through muscle and bone — a deeply grounding experience.

Known for

Deep relaxation, physical tension release, grounding. The harmonic overtones create a “sound massage” effect.

Gongs

The gong is one of the most powerful sound healing instruments. It produces a full spectrum of frequencies simultaneously — from deep bass to shimmering highs — creating an immersive wall of sound that envelops the entire body.

Known for

Deep transformation, breaking through energetic blockages, profound altered states. Often called a “gong bath.”

Chimes & Bells

Koshi chimes, Tingsha cymbals, and wind chimes produce delicate, high-frequency tones that clear stagnant energy and mark transitions within a session. Their bright, clear sound cuts through mental fog.

Known for

Mental clarity, space clearing, gentle awakening. Often used to open and close ceremonies.

About

A spin-off of Ripple Collective — built to spread good

Ripple Sound is a dedicated sound healing offering from Ripple Collective — focused on spreading the most impactful ripples to keep us all moving forward.

Healing is collective. When one person softens, resets, and reconnects, the ripple extends outward: to their family, their team, their community. Sound is one of the oldest and most universal forms of healing on Earth, and Ripple Sound exists to make it accessible, modern, and deeply felt.

Every interaction carries one intention: leave it better than I found it. Every session, every conversation, every shared moment is an opportunity to create something meaningful. Through Tibetan and crystal bowl traditions, modern nervous system science, and intentional care, I hold space for people to arrive exactly as they are — and leave a little more whole.

The Ripple Approach

A simple, grounded flow — before, during, after

The best sound healing experiences feel both expansive and safe. I create a container that supports your nervous system, then let the frequencies do their work. Every session follows a three-phase arc designed to help you arrive, release, and integrate.

Step 1

Arrive + Set Intention

Each session begins with a brief grounding — slow breathing, body scan, and a gentle prompt to help you name what you want to shift or release. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system and prepares your body to receive the sound. Setting an intention gives the subconscious mind a direction.

Step 2

Immerse in Sound

Crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, chimes, gongs, and vibrational tones guide the body into deep rest. Brainwaves shift from beta into alpha and theta states — the same frequencies present during deep meditation and REM sleep. This is where clarity returns and the body begins to heal.

Step 3

Integrate

The session closes with a few minutes of stillness, gentle chimes to bring you back, and a moment for reflection. You'll receive a practical takeaway — a breathing technique, a journaling prompt, or a simple body practice — to extend the ripple into your week. Integration is where lasting change happens.

Result

Calm, clarity, forward motion

Not a quick fix — a genuine reset. You leave feeling more resourced, more present, and more able to move forward with intention. The effects often deepen over the following days as your nervous system continues to recalibrate.
